
APIE IG e-Workshop
The APIE IG e-Workshop is a four-week interactive online workshop that introduces learners to the global Internet community and explores how individuals can get involved in shaping the Internet.
The workshop consists of a three-week online course with four, one-hour interactive sessions, where participants can dive deeper into the content, ask questions, and share ideas with peers. It will cover:
- How the Internet community looks like and who is involved in decision-making
- The role of actors in the global Internet community, such as governments, private sectors, technical communities, and civil society
- How different stakeholders contribute to maintain and evolve a healthy Internet from different aspects
- How individuals and students can participate in global Internet forums and policy discussions
- How global Internet discussions take place, including meetings, mailing lists, and online forums
By the end of the workshop, learners will be better prepared to become active contributors to Internet governance discussions, and will gain confidence in applying for fellowship offered by Internet related forums and meetings.
Study Requirement: 4 weeks, 5 hours in total
Topics Covered in This Course
Each week, participants complete one module of the online course followed by an interactive group discussion, and in the final week, a guest speaker shares practical insights on how to get involved in the Internet community.

Learning Outcomes
This course offers learners the ability to:
- Describe the Internet ecosystem including organisations and communities support running the Internet
- Explain the brief history of the Internet
- Explain the concept of the multi-stakeholder model in the Internet ecosystem
- Explain different governance aspects of the Internet from both Internet “of” and Internet “on” perspectives
- Discuss the importance of global collaboration to make the Internet work healthier
- Contribute to local, regional or global forums related to the Internet

Prerequisite
Participants should complete the APIE Core Course, which consists of the following programs, before applying to the APIE IG e-workshop.
- SOI Asia Online Course: Understanding the Internet
- Understanding the Internet is one of the components of the APIE Core Course and provides foundational knowledge of how the Internet works.
- SOI Asia Online Course: Operating the Internet
- Operating the Internet introduces the fundamentals of Internet operations, focusing on the planning and management of networks of various scales—from home setups to enterprise environments—through project-based learning narratives, recommended to take after completing Understanding the Internet.
